There are almost only 2 weeks left in this quarter. It has been tough but meaningful. We have learnt a lot in this class, and knew how to write a blog, how to use a primary source; how to use the primary source and how to edit our own paper to get a better grade. I have got a bad grade in the ARP, which surprises me. Cause I thought I did well in the ssi but the grade is so different. After I examined the feed back I found my problem. In the ssi I focused on the analysis claims and content which were discussed in the office time. But in the ARP the reason why it failed is that my paper is lack of logic and construction. The idea of using outline makes me feel inspired. I should write a outline first, so that it can make my paper clear to the readers, and help the future write on its way.
After that Chase gave us some extra credits which made me relieved, I didn't sleep well because of the bad grade. We got 3 options, one to go to the class, one to write an outline and one to writ a memo. I have already finished the outline. I think Chase is brilliant to give us a grade which can hurt some of us, this makes us nervous and will try our best to get a better grade. In this process, we can learn a lot.

Blog Post 9

One thing that is coming up is Thanksgiving. Relating this to class, I believe this is one of the holidays that all social classes can celebrate equally. Whether rich or poor, Thanksgiving is celebrated by almost everyone in America. Food prices aren’t terribly expensive in this country, so it is not like Christmas where gifts can get very expensive. The only problem for different classes can be the price of transportation, since getting to family that is very far away can be economically difficult. Yet that is true for any holiday. Another thing that I think of is that Thanksgiving was first started when the pilgrims came to America and didn’t have any food. So the “upper-class” Native Americans helped them out. This shows how Thanksgiving is a holiday for all social classes to enjoy. 

Another thing to think of is that financial differences disappear during the Thanksgiving holiday. During a holiday like Christmas, there can be some awkward moments when one family has much more gifts than another family. This can be especially pronounced when these two families share some relation and therefore see each other quite often. Yet with Thanksgiving, there is no need to worry about this. Both because everyone is sharing the same meal, and because family often comes together to enjoy the meal together. So it is not like there can be a Christmas-esque moment where one family has a much better dinner than another family in the same extended family. These are the reasons that Thanksgiving is a holiday for all social classes.

Last weekend, it was the first to go to the American wedding. It is excited and curious what is difference between China wedding and American wedding. To be honest, I was confused from the Shower. When I first heard the Shower I thought it is the shower we normal take. But I google it, it is totally different with I thinking. The Shower is a bridal shower of gift-giving party held for a bride.We sends our best wishes and gifts to bride. We had branch, eating, talking and sharing story. Then, bride open all gifts received. That is sweet. In China, most people do not have bridal shower but for some Christians also held this. For the wedding, in American, there are two parts. One is in church one is reception. The ceremony in church is people together witness the love of the new couple with music, flowers and wishes. After the wedding part, we went to the golf course. With the nice weather people took photos together, played golf and played game making friends. Everything is going well here. After dinner, we danced, had drinks and sing. In China, we just have reception. The ceremony also held in reception then we have dinner. It is more boring. The interesting parts are the groom and best men come to bride’s home to meet bride and after wedding a branch of friends shivaree. Let bride and groom play some interesting and difficult games.People are enjoyed it.

In commonplace, I will still talk about education in China, because the education is a hot topic all over the world. Whatever the child or old people, everyone will follow the latest news about education. Because every family has children, they will go to school. Of cause, parents will care about the quality of the school and the newest rules of school. For now,the events about education is frequently appearing in TV whatever good things or bad. This is a component of social events. Education can include any kind of funny stories of students and some news related to the social or government. And it can reflect the new tendency about the education system change or something else. In my ARP, I am concentrated on the research parts. The more analyze the evidence to improve the argument. I think I will make big change in commonplace eassay. Let ‘s more interesting and more persuasive.
I will started with my Primary source analysis of the movie “ Not One Less”.Because the movie is a relax way to let audience received when they are tired. People will know the situation among the rural area in China and have some feeling from this movie. I think it is a good start to arouse interest let people read more. And also I will combine the secondary source analysis to talk more.I believe it will let more people know and interested in join to help students in rural area to come true their dream of going to school.

My ARP was mainly about the poor and how the government doesn’t tailor specific solutions to try and achieve the most benefits possible for each poor person. I don’t think it will be much of a problem trying to adapt this to a public audience. I can talk about how the government could provide more specific support to groups that my audience can relate to, such as college graduates in debt. I think this will be a bit of a challenge because I will have to delve into some new research, since that topic wasn’t discussed much in my ARP or any of my secondary sources. Yet I believe it shouldn’t be too difficult to make the connection between debt from college education and my primary source. 

As far as the position I am going to take, I will probably take a position similar to the one I took in my ARP and argue for the government providing more benefits to college students suffering from debt. I will advocate for more programs to help college students so they aren’t stuck with so much debt after they graduate. This may mean different things for different groups of students, but I hope for a better system to help prevent this problem of so much debt. I believe if this debt can be prevented in the first place, it will help our young people get off to a better start in life as they will not be so focused on paying off debts for their first several years in the work force.

Why do girls like bad guys? There is an old saying in Chinese that a girl won’t love a man who is not bad. This proverb makes me confused for a long time, because normal people would think that if being good to a girl, the girls would be moved by the genuine. And as a fact that lot of girls claim that they like good man, they want to look for good man to be boyfriend or husband. It is interesting that they complained that why can’t they find people like those. As a matter of fact girls usually are attracted by the bad guys who are usually charming, romantic and humorous.

The public usually hold negative opinion about the word bad. But the word bad we use here is different from the bad people who kill, set up fired or ripe. It is more like strong and sexy. In our life, almost all the bad guys have girls around them. In a contrary, the good guys who are often honest are the one abandoned or rejected by girls. According to an investigation, over 95 percent of bachelors are good and honest. No matter the bad guys are poor, they can always find a girlfriend. They experienced a lot, practiced a lot, got hurt a lot, and had sex a lot. So why can those people attract girls?

After SSI,this paper becomes better and more thoughtful, meaningful. The clear argument and organization is good foundation for me. In SSI, there are some grammar problems and some errors in my sentence. I will improve in this part. And also , I will make some changes in PSA being more concise and adding the complex thesis for connection between PSA and SSI. For now, I will deeply analyze the argument and try to extend in other disagree parts to make the thesis more complex in secondary sources. Maybe I will talk about around a short story from source to develop analyzing the prevailing against patriarchy and poverty in “Tibean Girls’s Education”. Do better in combine the sources. I will try to make more clearly argument to compare the difference and find the same parts .And making the whole paper more smoothly and fluently.

In this quarter I learned how to analyze arguments, how to find the relevant sources using proper evidence to prove or disprove claim and finding,citing,and integrating sources.For the evidence,I should find the substantiate claims,then refine ideas,define the key terms more precisely and to qualify of claim making them more accurate.For the analytical skill, I think need define the significant parts and how they are related,then make the implicit explicit analyze and formulating questions and explanations.

Paper Status Update

In terms of my paper, I believe it is going smoothly so far. I think I can engage more deeply with my secondary sources and put them in conversation with each other more often. However, I am happy with the secondary sources I have and I think they offer a sufficient foundation of evidence for my paper. Therefore, I don’t think I will need to do any new research to find new sources. Rather, I can dedicate that time to examining my current sources more thoroughly. Perhaps this will allow me to support my claims in different ways. It is also possible that I will be able to find new arguments that disagree with me. This will help me show that I am not just using dummy positions to support my point. If I have more evidence I have to dispute, it gives more validity to my paper.  In my ARP, I will work on my transitional sentences to result in a smoother paper that is easier to read. This is just a structural change, yet it will make my arguments seem stronger due to the ease of reading the new format. 

In terms of grammar, there are a few repetitive sentences I need to fix. There are also a few claims I make that could be phrased differently to better prove my point. I also want a better conclusion, since it is bothering me that I don’t have much of one right now. This will offer a way to tie the entire paper back to my thesis, and also will wrap up the paper for the reader. There are also a few paragraphs where I could organize it better, in terms of topic sentences and things like that.

After the self-evaluation, I think I had a better view of my SSI. In the class Edu108, I have learnt how to cite the source and how to summarize the information which was found on the book or the internet. In today’s class, I also got some new inspiration. The paper we write has to be attractive to all kinds of people, to satisfy people with different interests. So in the third paper, I think I will try to add some more interesting information so that it can be more attractive and persuasive.
I will add some fancy experiment to prove the effect of cold reading and some more analysis for some of the claims. Also I think there might be some of the grammar and spelling errors should be modified. And also improve the details of professional cold readers experiment on clients; this will help readers understand how powerful this technique is. Another name of cold reading is psychological reading. This might change some people’s idea against it.
I would also like to add another question. How can we learn and improve when we are learning psychological reading. Cause cold reading requires good memory and accurate observation. Advanced readers want to zero in as quickly as possible on the precise problem that is bothering the client. Readers might be smarter when they are practicing and it can also be used to cure people with mental disease.

About "Roseanne"

The episode of Roseanne is very interesting. I remember the scene of how Roseanne and her husband assign the housework. Even Roseanne has much work to do, she still has mostly housework. She has to school visiting her daughter’s teacher, go supermarket and do normal housework. Her husband did a little thing in the family. In the real society, women always busy after got married and had children. They are busying in family to do housework and take care of husband and children.If husband can not make enough money for the family, wife has to go to work for living.Like Roseanne said “I have three kids and I work, so I do not have any free time”. Her daily life is all about the family having no time to do what she interested in .Even she want to do but she has no time. On some part, I think it is pathetic.The center of the women life is the family.May some women like to do this. But still some of women have to accept the reality.The model of Roseanne reflect she need help in some ways maybe from her husband,her children and her boss.She need more understanding she can not do anything because she has limit time.If her husband can share more housework she can have a rest.If her children can do better in school ,she does not need to ask a break from her boss.So I think if every one can has more understanding for others.Everyone will be more happiness.

Reaction to Roseanne

One scene I looked at in the episode of Roseanne was when Roseanne had the meeting with her daughter’s history teacher. I thought it was interesting how the teacher said it could be possible that the mother wasn’t spending enough time with her daughter, yet Roseanne seemed to ignore this and insist she was doing fine. It was interesting to me how in the business of the daily grind, Roseanne was more concerned with her own career and making enough money to support her family than she was with the emotional connection she was apparently lacking with her daughter. This makes me wonder how family structure has changed in the last couple decades, since schedules are getting busier and busier, leaving parents less time to spend with their kids. On one hand, this may result in kids becoming more self-reliant, since their parents aren’t hovering over them as much as they might have in past generations. Yet on the other hand, it could also result in kids picking up bad habits, since they don’t have that solid parental foundation to lean on as an example of what to do. Personally, I believe it will not be a big deal, since parents will still be there for their kids, just maybe in more of a hands-off role than in previous times. Each way has its advantages and disadvantages, but I think the more hands-off parenting style will be good. It will allow children to learn more responsibility. Since they will be learning from their mistakes themselves, rather than having their parents micromanage them and say no every time they consider doing anything wrong, they will be better prepared for life as adults.

The New Chinese Marriage Law

There is a current event talks about that the new Chinese Marriage law protects men’s assets, angers women. Marriage has been noble through thousands of years, but in the new society the divorce rate has raised a lot. In the new law, who pays the cost for the house has the proprietary rights. And the house bought after marriage for parents, the other spouse doesn’t have the right to divide it. Many people believe the new Marriage law is “good news” for men, protecting their advantageous position in a marriage, and damaging the interests of woman.
The balance has been upset. For thousands of years, the men contribute more financially while the women give birth to children who take the father’s surname. In the new law, man have more rights to own their money, but the woman still have to devote themselves in to the relationship and educating their child. Although man can usually make most of the money at home, without the help of woman, a family couldn’t form. Women are doing the work which can’t be measured by money. The new law clarifies the equality of economy in a family.
Equal seems good to everyone, but actually this increased the rate of divorce. Men have fewer boundaries to divorce with woman, which they don’t have to be afraid that their money would be divided to women unequally. So I think the law still need to be modified, women should get more rights. And the law should be a tool to protect the marriage not a weapon to tear it up.

One current event that reflects the course theme is the ongoing NBA lockout. The players and owners are having trouble agreeing on a new agreement, and so far the season is locked out due to the lack of a compromise. The funny thing about this is that the league is making billions per year, yet is still willing to be stubborn and possibly lose all the revenue from a season, just over the disagreement of a few million dollars. Relating this to the issue of class warfare, this is the type of thing that makes the upper class such an easy target. It makes no sense that the owners and players would take the chance of making no money, rather than negotiating. It seems like both sides have drawn their lines in the sand and now are just going to wait for the other to cave. Meanwhile, people are struggling with their bills and are working overtime to make ends work. In the land of the NBA, Kobe Bryant and other players are negotiating to decide whether they make 20 million a year or 15 million a year. This ludicrous amount of money is being paid to people for playing a game. While it is debatable whether they actually deserve such high contracts, the fact of the matter is that the NBA lockout makes both parties look bad when compared to the average working man. Most people would not be able to stop getting paychecks while they negotiate with their bosses for months. This shows how different life is for the upper class as compared to the working class.
